KCS Employee Leave 2021

Please note that the following guidance applies only to leave directly related to COVID-19.

Federal and statewide update (January 2021)

The federal leave provisions from the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) were not extended beyond December 31, 2020 by the latest federal stimulus legislation, the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2021. The Emergency Paid Sick Leave (EPSL) and Expanded Family Medical Leave (EFML) are no longer available to county board of education employees.

If employees are exposed to COVID-19 and need to quarantine or if they are diagnosed with COVID-19, employees can utilize any accrued leave available to them.

If employees have child care issues due to COVID-19, the leave options available to them are limited to any accrued leave available to them.

If leave is not available, the employee would need to take leave without pay.

Additional KCS Employee Leave Information

In addition, the KCS administration granted full-time employees an additional 3 days of personal leave and part-time employees an additional 1.5 days to use by June 30th, 2021. These additional days were rolled over into sick if they were not used.

As always, we thank you for all that you do for Kanawha County Schools. If you have questions about COVID-related leave, please contact the KCS HR Department at [email protected] or  [email protected]
